Thanks for browsing our website. We are Mark and Sally Darley of Nova Scotia Farm, Thorner, North East of Leeds.
As beef farmers, we started out showcasing our award winning cattle in 2000, by retailing our beef via the internet - earning us the Yorkshire Post Farm of the Year award in 2001.
As a result of the direct sales success we decided to open a butcher shop and also began to promote our beef and the shop at various small food events. It was here where we first developed our individual steak pie recipe. The idea was to enable potential customers to sample the quality of our beef ”not the pie” initially. As well as steak pies we have gradually introduced other gourmet pies to the range we offer around the country and online.
Over the subsequent years our Dishes to Dine For range of beef ready meals was developed and received great success. Unfortunately, we have had to suspend production of these for the time being however, whilst we source a suitable manufacturing outlet that we are happy with. We will keep you updated on this.

What we do
What we do
We are specialist Yorkshire beef farmers/producers, breeding and also growing 90% of our animals’ feed. They are raised on a traditional grass based single suckler system without any routine antibiotics. Our farm business and production method is such that we were awarded the Yorkshire Post Farm of the Year 2000/2001. We have, over the years, won many supreme championships with our cattle at prime stock and summer shows. Originally as a farm diversification we now supply to the full length of the UK….
From our exhibition unit, we purvey our fully-matured “SUPREME QUALITY YORKSHIRE BEEF” sold fresh and vac-packed. These cuts are all in oven ready portions. Our wonderful POTTED BEEF along with our unique speciality INDIVIDUAL STEAK PIE. Which we freshly bake on site throughout the day, and are much sought-after. We are always keen to provide hot samples for those who wish to “try the pie”. All our staff are enthusiastic, very polite and have excellent product knowledge to make this an interesting/informative experience for the public. Dependant on catering rights or restrictions, we can sell these hot or more usually chilled and bagged/boxed for consumption off site.

More recently created and planned to be continuously developed throughout 2014, are our restaurant-quality, frozen beef, ready meals, “DISHES TO DINE FOR”. As well as proving a popular new addition to our range, they are also great for fellow exhibitors staying on site. These are also offered as hot samples throughout the day with the fine tasting points of the ingredients and recipes being explained. The suet puddings from this range are now becoming difficult for us to keep pace with demand. The meals are sold in a specially made cool bag to ensure customers can get their purchases home without the product thawing.
We also in 2013 developed a Jelly-less Pork pie. Purely to run along side the steak pie offering ,but only because of repeated customer request ! With 100% British Pork and the same attention to detail applied to all our products, they are proving very popular.
Again baked fresh on site and sampled warm and chilled for sale.
Where catering is required we can Provide the Pies hot & accompanied with Mushy peas, mash and gravy or a Jacket Potato. We can do Jacket Potatoes with various fillings inc Vegetarian options and of course our “Dishes to dine for” meals. We also do a 20hr cooked Pulled Brisket which can be offered with salad and flat breads, bread cakes or wraps.We are for the Body Power Expo offering it with Sweet potato! All we do is totally wholesome and presented more “gastro pub” than “burger van” !
I am confident we would represent a smart, professional and worthwhile addition to your food hall . We are very flexible as to what elements of the above we exhibit.

We are also very proud to have been the chosen caterers to The British Limousin Cattle Society’s National open day, also The Jesus College May ball at Cambridge University.
We always operate with due diligence and adhere to current food hygiene regulations and practice as guided by our local EHO. Following our last Food and Health service inspection 7th June 2012 Nova Scotia Farm was awarded 5 out of 5 on the star rating system . All our electrical equipment is fully P.A.T certified. We have current public liability insurance of five million pounds.
